About Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic?

As Chiropractors we believe that a strong healthy spine is an integral part of your health and wellbeing. We assist and encourage our patients in restoring and maintaining better spinal movement and posture. Doing so creates greater integrity and efficiency of your spinal mechanics, which enhances performance, while reducing risk of future injuries and degenerative changes in your spine.

Though Chiropractic is primarily concerned with the mechanical function of your spine, we believe that your spinal function may also influence your nervous systems and can impact your overall health.

Your nervous system helps  controls and coordinates the function of every single cell in your body.
 When the bones of your spine are locked in an abnormal position, what Chiropractors refer to as a vertebral “subluxation”, it compromises the mechanical and neurological integrity of the spine, and can result in spinal pain and dysfunction of the nervous system.

The primary focus of chiropractic care is to detect, correct and then prevent spinal joint dysfunction.
Chiropractors correct subluxations with a technique known as an adjustment. The adjustment is usually performed by hand (ie. manipulation or gentle pressure techniques), or by using a special instrument called an ‘Activator. The purpose of the Adjustment is to restore normal movement to the spinal joint and align the spine.

Frequently asked questions!

Q. What training do Chiropractors have?
To become a registered chiropractor in Australia you must have studied an accredited 5-year chiropractic program conducted at a University within Australia, or have completed an accredited program overseas that satisfies the requirements set by the Australian Chiropractors Registration Boards.

Q. Why is my spine important?
Maintaining optimal spinal posture and function is important for two reasons;
1/ so that we preserve the integrity of the nervous system. The moving bones of the spine protect the vulnerable communication pathways of the spinal cord and nerve roots. If the nervous system is impaired, it can cause malfunction of the tissue and organs throughout the body. A healthy spine allows the nervous system to work without interference giving our bodies their best chance of good health.
2/ It ensures that the mechanics of the spine are working at maximum efficiency, thereby we decreases risk of malfunction and injury, decrease wear and tear or degeneration on the spine, and reduce muscular fatigue.

Q. Do adjustments hurt?
In most cases, not at all. Many people find having an adjustments very relaxing. Chiropractors always aim to be as gentle as possible when giving adjustments, though do tell them if you experience discomfort.

Q. What is the cracking sound you sometimes her with manipulation?
With some adjustments you may feel or hear a popping sound from the joint. This is simply causes by a gas release from the joint as spinal movement is restored, such as when a wet glass is removed from a table.
